Belfast Hills Partnership Trust
The Belfast Hills is an exceptionally important upland landscape straddling the northwest slopes of the Lagan Valley, which contains much of the Belfast Metropolitan area.
It slopes more gently west towards, Antrim, and Lough Neagh. These hill summits and slopes are therefore very close to many housing estates which suffer high levels of deprivation.
The hills provide the people of North and West Belfast an opportunity to experience nature on their doorstep and they also provide a place for nature to flourish and thrive in a peri-urban setting.
The Belfast Hills Partnership (BHP) is an independent charity which seeks to improve how the hills are managed. They do this by working with their partners including local councils, government departments, community groups, nature conservation organisations and businesses committed to caring for the Belfast Hills and their people.
The Belfast Hills Partnership Mission is to:
- Provide a practical and integrated management mechanism for the Belfast Hills
- Contribute to the conservation, protection and enhancement of its natural, built and cultural heritage and providing for responsible countryside enjoyment.
- Contribute to quality of life of communities on the fringes of the Belfast Hills, rural residents of the area and to the wider urban and rural environment.
- Work in partnership with others towards the realisation of the Belfast Hills Vision within a Belfast Hills Integrated management plan.
